More playground fun

Silly goose.

I don't know why I like this picture so much.
I called James's name and he just stuck his hand out, as if to say 'here I am, I'm alright!'
It made me laugh!

Hot and tired.

Good grief

James fell asleep on my shoulder in the checkout line at Kroger yesterday.
This kid will sleep anytime/anywhere, as long as it's not in bed at night!

Weekend fun

Last week was a long week with John's surgery and recuperation at home. John will be out of commission for some time yet, but is doing well overall and is getting around a lot better on his own at home. In the meantime, James and I managed to sneak away for some playtime over the weekend.

J continues to branch out at the playground, and he climbed this ladder by himself.
He was so proud of himself, and consequently, I was proud of myself for minimizing my hovering and letting him do it on his own!

We went to a friend's farm birthday party on Saturday.
James had a lot of fun with the animals.

He fed the ducks and the geese.
I had to restrain him from walking right into the pond a few times.

It was over 90 degrees and very humid, and James was wilting by the time he got on the pony. Even though he looked a little zonked, he still refused to get off when his turn ended, so he got to take a few extra turns around the chicken coop!

Muffins with Mom

James's class had a 'Muffins with Mom' morning yesterday to celebrate Mother's Day.
James and I had a great time!

Gaming the system

I got called to pick James up early from school yesterday.
He was crying and his stomach seemed to hurt, so  I immediately went to get him.
This was him as soon as we got home:
Diagnosis: I missed Mommy and Legos!

Playground Progress, etc.

In the past couple of months, James has really taken off at the playground.
He used to mostly wander around and watch other kids, but now he is climbing and sliding and generally playing like a typical kid! It's great to see!

James's class had a Zoo field trip last month.
8 boys with special needs at the Zoo is about what you might imagine!!

On a slightly less positive note, we've had lots of hand-biting lately. This seems to happen most often if James is stressed/overstimulated or in physical pain somewhere else in his body (usually stomach). But sometimes he just seems to bite his hands absentmindedly. We hate it and still don't know the best way to handle it. Our most successful intervention so far is just getting him busy with Legos, so his hands are otherwise occupied.
